Educate Texas Shares Recommendations and Priorities for the Texas 88th Legislature

January 10, 2023

Ahead of the next 140 days under the “pink dome” of the Texas Capitol, Educate Texas’ Policy and Advocacy team convened practitioners from public and higher education and the workforce to develop priorities and recommendations for the Texas legislature. The priorities developed help advance Educate Texas’ overall vision for all Texas students, especially African American, Latino, and economically disadvantaged students, to earn a college degree or credential that leads to a living wage and thriving communities.

To achieve that vision, the following policy recommendations are focused on the single goal of ensuring that every Texas student has the tools and resources they need to succeed in school, the workforce, and life.

Texas Student Success Council (TSSC) recommends aligning college and career training to regional workforce needs, strengthening alignment across education sectors, and strengthening equitable pathways from K12 to college.

Teaching and Learning Council (TLC) recommends increased support for relevant and rigorous teacher preparation routes, support for investment in current teachers and retention, and increased data accessibility and transparency.
