North Dallas High School is redefining what high school can be. It offers students not just a diploma, but a head start on college and career readiness.
Through its P-TECH Collegiate Academy, in partnership with Dallas College Brookhaven, students can earn up to 60 hours of dual credit and an associate degree in a career-aligned field such as emergency medical services or computer information technology. This school model blends rigorous academics with real-world workforce development opportunities, helping students accelerate toward postsecondary success.
For Eden, a freshman at North Dallas High School, this opportunity is already shaping her future. Enrolled in the school’s EMT pathway, she is taking her first college-level course, delivered through a mix of in-person and online instruction. The experience is giving her early exposure to a high-demand healthcare career.
“I’m interested in becoming a doctor or nurse,” Eden says. “This program helps me explore what I want to do. It’s fun, and it’s helping me see what’s possible.”
While Eden is focused on college and career readiness, she is also deeply engaged in creativity and leadership. She serves as freshman class president, participates in the Black Student Alliance and Student Council, cheers for the Bulldogs, and shares her realism artwork with more than 16,000 followers on TikTok. Her goal is to attend UT Austin, and she is working daily to maintain the GPA and class rank it will take to get there.
Students like Eden are showing that college and career preparation can begin early while still allowing them to enjoy a full and active high school experience. At North Dallas High School, the P-TECH program offers students the opportunity to earn college credit, explore career-aligned pathways, and build meaningful momentum toward the future. With support from Educate Texas, this model is transforming what readiness looks like by meeting students where they are and helping them get to where they want to go.
