LEADING TO MORE WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

To make meaningful and sustainable progress toward gender equality in superintendency in Texas, action is needed from all members of the education community, including school board members, entities conducting recruitment and searches, and those already in leadership roles.

STRATEGIES

Prioritizing Gender
Equity & Selection

Promoting honest conversations and setting clear expectations with search consultants, hiring committees, and school boards about prioritizing diversity and mitigating biases in candidate search, review and selection.

BE TRANSPARENT

Search consultants and school boards have no requirement to report the number, qualification, race, ethnicity, or gender of their candidates to the Texas Education Agency or the public. Transparent reporting requirements must be put in place.

Supporting Families
& Wellbeing

Supporting the creation and implementation of policies within organizations to promote healthy work/life balance for all employees. Women are disproportionately responsible for child and elder care and other home responsibilities.

Being Financially Fair

Supporting equal pay for women. Gender-based pay disparities are unfair and have negative consequences for individuals, families, and society.

FOSTERING

SUPPORT SYSTEMS

This program provides coaching, sponsorship, and professional development opportunities to help each potential candidate excel in their current role and achieve their goal of becoming a superintendent.
