Acceleration Card Sort
A card sort activity aimed to help educators differentiate between acceleration and remediation.
In post Covid education, we are faced with a situation where almost every student has some form of unfinished learning. Whether it be from being forced to quarantine for weeks, or a lack of parent support while virtual learning, or even just the teacher not being able to teach to their abilities due to just trying to survive with the world being turned upsidedown. This being the case, what we cant do is put every student in a remediation course, nor can we expect the teachers to teach last years content while also trying to cover their current course content. This card sort, shared by the Charles A. Dana Center during the TxNSI Fall 2021 Convening, allows users to investigate each statement and determine if it represents the process of acceleration or remediation in order to solidify educators understanding that acceleration is a tactical focus on what students need this week to be successful, as opposed to remediation which would involve reteaching whole topics before moving on to teach new material.
