Capital City Public Charter School, Washington, D.C.
In 2000, the Capital City Public Charter School was founded by a group of parents and teachers and offers a rigorous academic program that emphasizes independent and collaborative learning within an inclusive community. The instructional model focuses on design principles such as deeper learning, authentic learning experiences, personalized instruction and a whole child approach. Through the EL Education model, the students study topics related to social justice, through authentic hands-on learning experiences that result in high quality and meaningful products. Since their first senior class, 100% of graduates have been accepted to college. The school serves a diverse population of over 1,000 students (58% low-income; 59% Latino, 30% Black, 7% White, 1% Asian, 3% Multiracial). Capital City has been recognized as a model for diversity and inclusivity and makes a strong commitment to educational equity for all students.
