Opportunity Culture: Teaching Residencies

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) made Texas the first state to support multiple districts in creating an Opportunity Culture in 2015, including supporting teaching residencies. Opportunity Culture has various models built to be tailored to each school district while still maintaining these goals: 1.) Reach more students with excellent teachers and their teams 2.) Pay teachers more for extending their reach 3.) Fund pay within regular budgets 4.) Provide protected in-school time and clarity about how to use it for planning, collaboration, and development, and 5.) Match authority and accountability to each person’s responsibilities. Opportunity Culture also holds a collection of materials and resources for teachers, principals, and districts to help build strong and effective classrooms and schools.
